• The opener arm looks tilted or cocked. The bracket has shifted because the weld cracked or the bolts have ovalized the holes. The opener is now fighting its own mount.
• A cracking or popping sound when the gate moves. That’s metal flexing at a compromised weld or a hinge binding. The noise gets worse, then something lets go.
• The gate drags on the driveway or ground. Usually a hinge issue, but the extra friction is what kills the opener’s internal gears early. On FM slide gates, a dragging wheel means a bent track bracket or a cracked weld on the support foot.
