If you order the wrong revision online, it won’t talk to your control board and you’ll be back where you started.

You’ll hear a buzzing scratch instead of a voice, or the visitor outside can’t hear you at all.
• The gate opens fine from the remote but not from the keypad. The receiver is fine and the keypad is dead. Because BFT keypads send their code through the same input channel as the intercom relay, a failed keypad board can also take out the intercom call button at the same time.
• The whole panel is dead after rain or heavy dew. The seal on the housing degrades over years in the Arcadia sun, and the gasket gets brittle. Water tracks down the seam and finds the board. DIY or Call Us?

There is one thing you can safely check yourself before you call: your gate’s main power and the keypad’s physical condition. If the pad is dark, confirm the gate breaker hasn’t tripped and the operator still has power. If the pad is cracked, fogged, or has visible water inside the lens, you’ve probably found your problem and you’re right to replace it.

But here’s where DIY goes wrong on BFT electronics. These are low-voltage boards, so you won’t shock yourself, which is why people assume it’s simple. The problem isn’t voltage, it’s the programming. If you wire the new keypad’s common and trigger lines into the wrong terminals on the BFT control board, you can send 24V into a 5V input and cook the control board itself. That’s a much more expensive repair than any keypad. The other trap is buying the wrong board revision online.
