Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad accepts the code but the gate does not move. This usually points to the access module’s relay not closing or a broken wire between the keypad and the control board. The keypad looks like it’s working because it beeps, but the signal never makes it to the opener.
- The gate opens on its own when nobody is near the reader. Weather sealing on older Arcadia installations cracks, moisture gets into the reader housing, and a shorted wire toggles the open input. It doesn’t happen on a schedule; it happens when humidity shifts or after rain.
- The fob works only when you are standing a foot from the receiver. The antenna wire on the access receiver is pinched or sitting against the metal gate post. This gets worse over time as the connection on the receiver board micro-fractures.
- One fob stopped working but the others are fine. Sometimes it is a dead fob; sometimes the access control memory has dropped that one device ID. We can test the fob with a signal reader in the driveway in about two minutes.
- The phone app shows the gate but won’t control it. On the Elite Smart series, the app talks through the access module’s network radio. A failing radio will still display status while the command channel stays dead.

DIY or Call Us?
The low-voltage access control side of an Elite opener is not the dangerous part of a gate system. You are not dealing with the high-tension springs or the drive chain there. What you can safely check: pull the keypad faceplate and look for corrosion on the terminal screws, make sure the reader is still mounted flush and not loose, and confirm the breaker for the gate opener itself is on. That is about it, and we would rather you stop before opening the main control board. The board side has live terminal strips, and on the Smart series one wrong wire placement can fry the new part you just bought. If you have a keypad showing signs of moisture, do not open it further than the faceplate. Water intrusion on an exposed terminal under power is the one genuine electrical hazard here.
