Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Arcadia Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible gate hardware in Arcadia, and the typical welding and fabrication job runs between $180 and $520 installed, with most repairs finished the same day we arrive. You’ll know something is wrong the moment the gate sounds different: a groan, a scrape, a clunk when it reverses. Or the whole panel tilts and the gate starts dragging across the driveway because the hinge weld tore loose from the post.
Most Ghost Controls owners in Arcadia discover the part failed the hard way, usually when the gate refuses to close all the way or sags hard to one side. The operator keeps pushing, the gears keep fighting, and something eventually gives. What surprises people is that the opener itself is often fine. The metal around it is what let go.
We are an independent gate shop in Arcadia that services Ghost Controls equipment. We are not affiliated with Ghost Controls, and we do not have to be. We fix the gate in your driveway, on site, and we stand behind the work with our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls builds two main lines: the residential series (AXP, AXR, DTP, and TSS models) and the heavier TDSL and TSS1XP units for larger estate gates. The welding and fabrication side covers the same ground no matter which opener you have: hinge points, post anchors, mounting plates, operator brackets, and the frame repairs that keep the whole assembly square.
Here is the compatibility gotcha that most Arcadia owners run into: the operator’s mounting bracket is model-specific, but the gate’s hinge hardware is not. A hinge assembly from a TSS1 will often fit an AXP install, but the bracket won’t. When we open a panel and see generic off-the-shelf hinges welded to a Ghost Controls arm, that’s when we know somebody tried to cut a corner. The arm geometry changes, and the opener ends up working twice as hard.
For the metalwork itself, we use OEM Ghost Controls brackets where it matters, and quality aftermarket ones where the spec is identical and the OEM markup is not worth your money. We will tell you which is which before we order anything. The decision is yours, and the price is agreed before work starts.
Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. This usually means the hinge welds on the post are cracking or the post itself has started to lean. Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice.
- The gate scrapes the ground or catches on the driveway. Arcadia’s clay soil shifts with the wet and dry seasons, and a post that was stable in June can be out of plumb by January. The panel is fine. The base is moving.
- The opener runs but the gate jerks or stalls mid-travel. Almost always a binding hinge or a warped bracket putting drag on the arm. The motor keeps ramping up to fight it, which shortens the opener’s life.
- You see rust around the welds or at the base of the post. Water collects at the joint, and rust is not a surface problem on a gate. It is structural. In Arcadia’s heat, rust expands inside the metal and cracks the steel from within.
- The gate closes hard and bounces back open. A broken or bent hinge pin changes the arc of the gate, and the Ghost Controls force sensors read that as an obstruction. The gate is trying to protect itself from a mechanical problem.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Arcadia, a welded hinge replacement runs about $180 to $320 per hinge, depending on the size of the gate and whether the post needs resetting. A full gate re-fabrication, where the panel needs to be cut back, squared, and rewelded, lands between $420 and $520. Mounting bracket swaps sit in the $160 to $240 range.
What drives the range is simple: whether we are working with your existing post, or a post that has rotted or shifted underground. SoCal’s sun and dry air creates its own problem on the metal side, but the real wild card is what the post is sitting in. If we have to dig it out and pour a new footing, that is extra time and concrete. You will know the final number before we touch a tool.
Every job includes the parts, welding consumables, labor, and cleanup, and the price we quote is the price on the invoice. No surprises at the door. And since we offer $40 off any repair over $200, most of these jobs drop below the numbers above.
DIY or Call Us?
If the gate is dragging and you want to check whether the hinge bolts are loose, grab a wrench and see. If those bolts spin freely, that’s a five-minute fix and you don’t need us. But if the welds are cracked, the post is leaning, or the panel is twisted, that’s not a weekend project. Welding on the gate without disconnecting the opener, getting the panel supported, and knowing how much heat the steel can take is how people get hurt and gates get ruined.
Here’s the safety part, plainly: gate hinges hold several hundred pounds of steel under tension, and when they let go they do it fast. A panel that comes off its post can crush whatever is in its path. That includes you. We have the equipment to support the gate properly, and we’ll do the work in your driveway so it never has to leave your property.

FAQs
A quality welded hinge assembly on a properly set post should last 15 to 20 years here, but the original equipment on a Ghost Controls gate often fails at the 8 to 12 year mark because the factory work was adequate, not heavy-duty. In Arcadia’s dry heat and occasional heavy rain, the stress cycles on weld joints eventually cause fatigue cracking. Hal Gatewood has seen factory welds fail on gates less than ten years old multiple times this season alone. If yours is older than a decade, it’s worth an inspection. Call (626) 628-9548 and we’ll take a look.
Yes, in many cases a cracked weld can be ground out and re-welded stronger than the original, especially if the failure is at the hinge joint rather than through the post. If the steel has rusted through or the post has shifted, replacement is the honest answer and repair would be throwing money away. We will show you the damage and explain the choice before you spend anything.
Most hinge and bracket replacements in Arcadia are done in two to four hours on site, including teardown, welding, paint touchup, and re-setting the opener limits. A full frame re-fabrication can run a half day. We schedule a time and we show up in that window, because your gate is the only thing on the schedule that day.
We carry Ghost Controls-compatible hinge assemblies, mounting brackets, and fabrication steel on our trucks and in the shop, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing. For model-specific operator brackets that we don’t have on hand, we can usually get them from our local Arcadia area supplier within a day or two. We will tell you up front if a part needs to be ordered, and we won’t start the job until it’s in our hands. Call (626) 628-9548 for a free estimate, and we’ll get you on the schedule.
